Domain registration New Zealand

The official domain extension for New Zealand is .NZ.

Currently, it is not possible to register a domain name directly with this extension. However, for those companies with interests in New Zealand, or that are looking to protect their trademark within the country, it is possible to register domain names with other, official, second level extensions.

New Zealand is an island country in Oceania, located in the Pacific Ocean, around 2000 km south east of Australia. It is made up of two main islands, North Island and South Island, separated by the Cook Strait, and other smaller islands, both inhabited, such as Steward Island, and uninhabited.

The landscape is predominantly mountainous and covers a total area of 267,710 km². The Southern Alps divide South Island, with the highest peak on Mount Cook at 3,754 m; North Island presents volcanic mountains, including those that are still active; this high ground is the source of an abundance of local fresh water in the form of rivers and volcanic lakes.

The population is made up mainly of European descendants of English or Scottish origin, with minority groups of Polynesian origin; the total population numbers 4,414,100. The capital and largest city is Wellington; the official languages are English, Māori and New Zealand Sign Language.

The main economic resources are livestock farming (cattle, sheep, wool sheep), agriculture (export of kiwis and apples) and, less importantly, mining (gold, iron and copper). Agriculture and food, textiles and mechanics are the biggest industrial sectors. The local currency is the New Zealand Dollar.
