Registering this domain extension is recommended strategic move for those companies with interests in Iraq or that are looking to protect their trademark within the country.

Iraq is a parliamentary republic located in Western Asia in the ancient land of Mesopotamia. It is bordered to the east by Iran to the west by Syria and Jordan, to the north by Turkey and to the south by Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. It has a small coastline in the south east on the Persian Gulf. It is subdivided into 18 governorates.

Iraq covers a total area of 437,072 km² including; to the west, part of the Arabian Peninsula and Syrian Desert, through which the River Euphrates runs until it reaches the vast Mesopotamian alluvial plain, created by the sediment from the same Euphrates and the River Tigris; to the east, the north-western end of the Zagros Mountains, which sit at 3000 m. The remainder of the country is flat in nature.
The population numbers 31,671,591 and is mainly Arabic, aside from some Kurdish minorities and other indigenous groups; most people are either Sunni or Shia Muslims, with a small Christian minority. The capital is Baghdad, the second most populated city in Southwest Asia, after Tehran. The official languages are Arabic and Kurdish, and the local currency is the Iraqi Dinar.

The main economic resource is petroleum; other sectors, such as agriculture, manufacturing and tourism, have been greatly damaged by the conflicts in the country over the past two decades.
